Palo Cortado Barbadillo VORS from Bodegas Barbadillo has been chosen as one of the “Magnificent 11 of 2014” as chosen by the prestigious Vivir el Vino Spanish wine guide. The awards event recently took place on the stage of the Cofidís Theatre in Madrid and its fundamental objective was to identify the best wines of the year by category. The master of ceremonies was the celebrated Spanish journalist, Pilar Cisneros, who presents the popular radio programme “La Mañana.”  The vice president of Bodegas Barbadillo, Joaquín Barbadillo, was charged with receiving the prize at a gala that was attended by winery owners, politicians, sommeliers and specialist journalists.
The gala marked the official launch of the 2014 edition of the Vivir el Vino wine guide, which brings together the best wines available on the market this year.  Sommelier Raúl Serrano put together his personal selection from over 1,500 aspiring wines through a number of blind tastings, sampling each one in order to select 365 wines, a different one for each day of the year.
In addition, the Vivir el Vino wine guide also highlights the Magnificent 11 of 2014; the best 11 wines of the year within each category.  Within the category of fortified wines, the jury highlighted the range of aromatic nuances of Barbadillo’s Palo Cortado, reminiscent of toasted almonds, walnuts and raisins.  Its mouthfilling smoothness lingers on the palate and this exceptional feature deemed it worthy of a place in the “Magnificent 11.”
The popular Vivir el Vino wine guide is designed to be of maximum use and so is presented in a clear and user-friendly manner to allow the reader to access information in the fastest way possible.  The wines are listed by Designation of Origin and winery with information about price, service temperature and optimal date of consumption.
The Madrid event was also attended by Pedro Barato, president of ASAJA and Cesar Lumbreras, director of the programme Agropopular from the Spanish radio channel COPE.
